Assignment

Project Description

The civilizations of Persia, Greece, and Rome will be investigated through their complex institutions (GREEM).  Students will work in groups of 2-3 and will be given specific institutions/civilization to research.  The end-product is a power point presentation.

Power Point Requirements

  • Team presentations are required.
  • Each team member will present 2 slides with 5 facts on each slide with a minimum of one visual.
  • The visuals need to be related to the topic(s) being presented.
  • Slides need to be well-designed, easy to read with bulleted information.
  • This is important because the class will be taking notes from your power point.
  • Additionally, each team will need to create a slide that shows how the topic is connected to current times.
  • A list of references is also required.

Additional Requirements

All students will hand in a written summary of their slide presentation due on the day of the presentation.  Minimum – 100 words.

Destiny

Use Destiny, the online card catalog, to locate books in the school library for your project.

There will also be a cart of books in the computer lab with many great resources.

Discovering Collection

At the Discovering Collection database main page, click on the cultures button and in the alphabetical listing look for "Greek Culture" or "Roman Culture."  Here you will find information on your culture.  You can also search for the names of important people in your culture, too.  For "Persian Culture" search by the topic name.

Culture Grams

Use Culture Grams to get a quick background on your culture.  Search for your culture and then choose "history" from the links on the left hand side of the country main page.

World Edition

Encyclopaedia Brittancia

Use this online encyclopedia to research your culture.  At the main page, click on "high school."  Try adding the word "ancient" to your search.  This database offers research information as well as pictures and links to Web sites.
